Hi. I currently have pre-fiber internet and Uverse. AT&T keeps sending me texts and letters saying they will upgrade me to fiber at no charge. But, what's in it for me? Will I get higher speeds? I currently have a great deal on Internet 50 at $17/mo, perpetually. Every time I enquired about getting higher speeds they said my rate would go up quite a bit, so I can live with 50 mbps. Will upgrading to fiber benefit me or just AT&T? Thx.

Yea there is no upside for you at 50/10 at $17 per month at this time if you don't need a higher speed package. Have they offered you Fiber 50/50 at $17 per month?
Normally the terms are a "free upgrade" which means a free basic professional install ( valued at $99 ).
The lowest Fiber Offering is Fiber 100 at $35 per month for 12 months ($20) discount and depending on where you live and a $10 Equipment fee waiver for 12 months.

Thanks. That's what I suspected. I haven't called yet to see what the actual deal is, but I'm happy to stick with my $17/mo current internet at 50 mbps.

I just called them. Even though the letter says the price would not go up, the customer service rep said it would. So I guess they are liars.

Your price would go up because you are paying for higher speeds. Fine print in the offer would note that.

This is what it says:
Call to schedule your appointment so you can connect faster, stream faster, and download faster-at no additional cost.
They put that part in bold, not me.
Fine print:
Complimentary speed upgrade cannot be combined with some AT&T offers. Complimentary speed upgrade will not expire as long as you maintain uninterrupted service and remain in good standing on your Internet account, however it is not a price guarantee. You will continue to see your current rate on your account. Any future price increases will be applied to your current rate, before any discounts are applied.
I bolded that part. Like I said, they lie.

It sounds like the offer is for no price increase. However, that doesn't mean forever. AT&T does want to transition users from the copper to fiber where they have the capacity to do so. Once you've moved, there will likely be no going back.
I'm surprised at the ignorance that spews forth from the CSRs mouths sometimes. They make stuff up to get you to end the call and give them positive rep in the post-call survey.

I see that a lot when I talk to a CSR from India. Constant "do not worry, do not worry" yet they promise everything and do nothing.
The CSR I just called sounded like an American woman. She said my price will go up and the cheapest plan they offer on fiber is $35 (plus I'm sure modem rental and taxes/fees). I said no thanks.

Yes, indeed the modem rental and fees would be tacked on. But you're paying less than $35 now for your service?

Yes, I pay $17 for 50/10 internet. I think it is normally $60 but I'm getting a $30 discount for bundling (with Uverse) and $13 off per month Speed Upgrade.

Ah, so they could give you fiber for $60 and it would be the "same price." See how that works?
Seriously, you could probably still get a U-verse TV bundle discount on fiber [Hey, no fair, mine's only $20], but I have no idea what that $13 Speed upgrade is. Never seen that before.
