AT&T's fiber install kit includes a Wi-Fi gateway and all the cables you need. You can order your self-install kit when you sign up for your plan.
How long does it take to get AT&T fiber installed? ›
It takes four to six hours to install AT&T Fiber. This may include replacing existing copper wiring with new fiber lines to provide you with our best internet experience.
How does AT&T fiber get into a house? ›
To put it simply, the professional will insert the cables underground, then run those cables from a nearby equipment box to a smaller utility box close to your home. By doing this, they ensure the fiber-optic connection will reach your house. Some fiber connections can also be made via aerial installations.
What equipment is required for AT&T fiber? ›
AT&T requires use of their proprietary Gateway (modem/router combo). It is not owned, so you pay monthly for it always. An additional router can be used in a passthrough setup. AT&T's Gateway will still provide the modem part and you don't get out of the monthly fee.
Does AT&T fiber come with a router? ›
AT&T provides the gateway when you purchase AT&T Internet, including AT&T Fiber®. Common Wi-Fi gateway models provided by AT&T include: BGW320, BGW210, Pace 5268, NVG599, and NVG589, but you may receive a different Wi-Fi gateway model. Other popular internet service providers also offer similar equipment.

Normally it is supposed to 3 to 6 feet underground. When we come to repair the cable, we give you what is called a "Temporary Drop" That drop can either be aerial or on the ground. If an aerial temporary drop is placed, that drop is moved to the ground, so it can become a buried or permanent drop.
Does AT&T fiber require a modem? ›
Yes. For fiber internet, you need a modem to connect your house to the internet. For fiber internet, this is the Optical Network Terminal (ONT) that the AT&T technician will install in your home. You'll also need a Wi-Fi gateway that creates the home network for your devices to connect to.
Does ATT fiber have Wi-Fi? ›
Hyper-gig internet is the family of plans that includes the 1 GIG, 2 GIG, and 5 GIG internet plans available from AT&T. All three Hyper-gig plans also include a next-generation Wi-Fi experience for all of your devices.
Many of AT&T's service area customers aren't living in homes wired for fiber. Instead, AT&T connects those customers using fixed wireless or a DSL hybrid service. That means worse value and much slower speeds than you'll get with fiber.
