Forest App Coins: How To Maximise Them, A Step By Step Guide | Automatic Productivity (1)

As a user of the Forest app, the ability to plant real trees and purchase new types of in-game trees to plant is often an incentive for me to want to increase earn more coins in the app. I’ve done the calculations and figured out that:

25 minutes sessions, 150-minute sessions or 180 minutes sessions on the Forest app will maximise the earnings of your Forest App coins.

Beyond optimising the timer in Forest, there are also other options you might choose to take to maximise your coin earnings on the app.

Table of Contents

5 Options To Get As Much Coins As You Can In The Forest App

There are 5 options you can take to maximise the coins you get in Forest:

  1. Optimising the use of the timer in the app
  2. Turn on “Extend Time Limit”
  3. Disabling “Deep Focus Mode”
  4. Paying real money
  5. Referring friends to the app

These options can be used independently or together depending on your goals of using the Forest app.

Using The Timer In Forest To Maximise Coins Earnings

The amount of coins you get in return for completing a session on the Forest App is not linear. Here’s how it looks like:

Whether you want to get the Witch Mushroom or Lover Tree unlocked, you can get it that much faster if you know how to maximise the number of coins you can get when you use the Forest App.

As you can see, the coins per minute that you get for completing each session fluctuates.

Based on the coins per minute you can get for using Forest, you can see that 25 and 150-minute sessions earn you 0.36 coins per minute.

And you can see that the 180-minute session earns you the most at 0.361 coins per minute.

If maximising the earnings of your Forest coins is your primary objective, then structuring the timings when you use the app into 25, 150 or 180-minute sessions will be a good strategy to adopt.

But let’s say your sessions on Forest do not need to go up till 180 or even 150 minutes. You set your timer to 25 minutes, find yourself in a state of focus and then forget about it and end up earning fewer coins than you deserved.

I know this to be a problem, not a huge one, but definitely an annoying one.

To minimise this from happening, turning on “Extend Time Limit” may be an option you want to consider.

Turn On “Extend Time Limit”

By default, Forest app has a timer limit of 2 hours. You can extend this to 3 hours by going into settings and turning on the “Extend Time Limit” option.

Forest App Coins: How To Maximise Them, A Step By Step Guide | Automatic Productivity (2)

Turning this on will allow each session on Forest to go up to 180 minutes.

Do note that although you can go up to 180 minutes, the maximum number of trees you can plant per session is 4.

If having your virtual forest look good and full is more important to you than earning more coins, you may want to turn this setting off.

Another scenario that has happened to me and might’ve happened to you is that in the middle of your session, you realise that you need to use your phone.

And then, you find out that navigating off the Forest app causes your tree to whither.

So not only do you forfeit your chance to earn more coins, now, your virtual forest gets uglier and you don’t get to earn any coins.

To avoid this problem, you may want to consider turning off the “Deep Focus Mode”.

Turn Off “Deep Focus Mode”

You can disable the “Deep Focus Mode” as shown below:

The “Deep Focus Mode” setting can be found where your main timer is in the app.

To disable deep focus mode, tap on the fire icon at the top of your screen.

Beyond the methods already discussed to earn more coins on Forest, you might want to take the less travelled path of paying real money in exchange for a 3x multiplication of rewards for using the app.

Let’s see how this works.

Paying Real Money

To multiply your rewards, you need to look for the sunshine elixirs.

They can be found at the main timer page in the app.

Tap on the plus icon at the top right of the screen and you will see the options you have.

Purchasing the sunshine elixir will result in a 3 times coin earnings rate.

I’ve included a table for an overview of how much coins you can earn per session in the table directly below.

If paying money for something virtual is not your thing, there is still 1 more option that you can choose to take to earn more coins in Forest.

You can consider referring your friends to the app.

Referring Friends To The App

Find your referral code by tapping on the plus icon in the main screen, then tap on “Get Free Coins”

Tapping on “Get Free Coins” will bring you to the “Invite Friends” page where you will find your referral code.

Each successful referral will earn you and your friend 500 coins.

To help you visualise, 500 coins is the equivalent of 1,388 minutes of focused time without sunshine elixir or 462 minutes of focused time with triple rewards from the sunshine elixir.

How Coins Are Calculated In The Forest App

I’ve had some trouble figuring out how the coins were calculated from the Forest FAQ page, but I manage to figure it out. In gist, this is how they do it:

From 10 – 20 minutesCoins earned = 1+(1/every 5 minutes)
25 minutes and beyondCoins earned = 4 + (1/every 5 minutes) + (5/every 30 minutes)

Note – (5/every 30 minutes) is only included from 60 minutes and beyond

If it’s still confusing, don’t worry, it was confusing to me too. Let us go into some examples that can help you to understand this better.

Examples Of How Coins Are Calculated In Forest

Before we go into more details about how coins are calculated in Forest, a few things about Forest to know that will help:

  1. The minimum amount of time you can go to the Forest timer is 10 minutes.
  2. The timer can only increase in 5-minute intervals.

How A 15 Minute “Tree” Is Calculated

For a 15 minute tree, the formula used is:

Coin earned = 1 + (1/every 5 minutes)

Coin earned for 15 minute tree = 1 + 3 = 4 coins

How A 35 Minute “Tree” Is Calculated

For a 35 minute tree, the formula used is:

Coins earned = 4 + (1/every 5 minutes) + (5/every 30 minutes)

Coin earned for a 35 minute tree = 4 + 7 + 0 = 11 coins

How A 70 Minute “Tree” Is Calculated

For a 70 minute tree, the formula used is:

Coins earned = 4 + (1/every 5 minutes) + (5/every 30 minutes)

Coin earned for a 70 minute tree – 4 + 14 + 10 = 28 coins

The Best Approach For You To Earn More Coins On Forest

You now know that there is much more you can do other than using the timer in Forest to maximise the coins you can earn from the app.

Equipped with 5 options, you now have a good understanding of how to maximise your coin earnings on Forest.

You now also have an understanding of how coins are calculated in Forest.

All you have to decide now is on what options you want to take. I believe there are 4 ways to configure this:

  1. The balanced approach (use options 1 to 3)
  2. The focused approach (use options 1 and 2)
  3. The free all out coins approach (use all options except buying sunshine elixirs)
  4. The paid all out coins approach (use all options)
  1. The balanced approach (use options 1 to 3)

This approach is a good balance between minimising distractions and earning coins.

  1. The focused approach (use options 1 and 2)

This approach is for those who want to mainly focus and minimise distractions but want to have a secondary aim of earning more coins on Forest.

  1. The free all out coins approach (use all options except buying sunshine elixirs)

Use this approach when you want to earn the maximum amount of coin without spending any money.

  1. The paid all out coins approach (use all options)

Use this approach when you want to earn the maximum amount of coin and don’t mind spending some money.
