How to wipe your cache partition

Wiping your phone's cache partition can help resolve general app slowness (such as messages loading slowly in the SMS app), lag when using HTC Sense, and various random glitches and errors.

This procedure clears temporary files from your phone's operating system and cleans up any residual files from apps you have uninstalled, to help your phone run smoothly. Follow these steps to wipe your phone's cache partition:

First, power the phone off completely. If necessary, choose one of the options below to force the phone to reboot and then power it off.

  • ForHTC phones with embedded battery, press and hold the POWER button for 10-15 seconds until the phone reboots.
  • Some phones such as HTC One Max and HTC One (M8) require you to hold VOLUME UP + POWER for 10-15 seconds.
  • Check with your carrier for the exact reboot button sequence, as this depends on the carrier; it may be VOLUME UP + POWER or VOLUME DOWN + POWER.
  • ForHTC phones with removable battery, remove the battery for 10 seconds. Re-insert the battery and power the phone back on.

With the phone powered off, follow these steps:

  1. Press and hold the VOLUME DOWN button while powering the phone on.
Continue to hold the VOLUME DOWNbutton until the Bootloader screen is displayed.
  2. Press the VOLUME DOWN button until Recovery is selected. Press the POWER button to select.
