How Often Should I Post on My Blog? (2024)

Now that’s a question I seem to get whenever anyone finds out what I do for a living. And, kind of like the money question, there’s no good answer that covers everyone in every situation.

How often you post articles on your blog depends on a variety of factors:

·How old your blog is

·Your blog topic

·How much content you have to share

·How often you can write new content

·How many articles you can afford to contract out if you don’t intend to write yourself

·The goal of your content

If you’re a content marketing team of one, don’t feel like you have to constantly pump out content. You’ll get burned out, your content will reflect it, and that’s not going to do your audience any good.

You should keep a schedule, though, even if the schedule is one post a week. This helps you accomplish two things: build organic traffic and promote brand awareness.

How often you post new content ultimately depends upon what your aim is for your blog.

Blogging to Increase Organic Traffic

If what you want to do is raise traffic numbers and bring clicks to your website and content, post frequently. What “frequently” means is something you’ll have to determine based on how much time you can devote to coming up with ideas, researching those ideas, and then writing the posts.

If you know you don’t have time to devote to (or know you just won’t do) all that, then your frequency depends upon how much you can afford to have someone else come up with your strategy (research topics and keywords, determine content types, create an editorial calendar, etc.) and then actually do the research on the articles and write up the posts.

The ideal blogging frequency to increase organic traffic for small blogs is 3-4 times a week with new posts.

The ideal blogging frequency to increase organic traffic for large blogs is 4-5 times a week with new and updated posts.

Blogging to Increase Brand Awareness

When building your brand, the key is to diversify your content. Think of ways your posts can highlight your brand and help define it.

How can a blog post tell your audience who you are?

You develop a voice for your company.

Are you formal, business-casual, or casual? Do you use light humor to get points across? Decide who you are, how you want to be known, and develop a style guide around that.

Because you’ll be focusing on building a voice for your company, you won’t have to publish as frequently as you would if you’re trying to build traffic. The ideal (for a small business) would be once a week, but if you can only afford once or twice a month, that’ll work.

To build brand awareness, provide your audience with useful information in the form of branded infographics or industry statistics. Those are good ways to build loyalty because you’re providing authoritative information that can be used.

Content can vary more when building your brand, from celebrating a team to an infographic that explains your core values.

The ideal blogging frequency to build brand awareness for small blogs is 1-2 times a week with new posts.

The ideal blogging frequency to build brand awareness for large blogs is 3-4 times a week with new and updated posts.

The Three Keys

Keeping up a blog and being consistent with it can be really difficult. Just remember: There is no exact science to it. You can be flexible with how you maintain your blog as long as you focus on content quality, keep it current, and you stick to your business goals.
