The First Dunkin’ Donuts Restaurant is Still in Operation: When founder William Rosenberg opened his first coffee and donut shop in Quincy, Massachusetts in 1948, it was originally named Open Kettle and served coffee, pastries and sandwiches. Two years later, Dunkin’ Donuts was officially born, and it is rumored that an Executive Architect came up with the name, inspired bythe idea of dunking donuts into coffee. Four years later, Rosenberg had already opened five locations. The original Dunkin’ Donuts is still standing in Quincy today and has been restored to its 1950’s glory with a retro design.
