What if my games crash, freeze, or won't play?

Games should play normally after upgrading to Windows 10. However, if you see display issues such as games crashing, freezing, or failing to play after updating, try the steps below.

Windows Update:

Windows Update keeps your software current by installing the latest features available from Microsoft. A Service Pack is now available for Windows 10. It may be installed by running Windows Update.

To run Windows Update:

  1. Open the Start menu.
  2. Select Settings.
  3. Select Updates and Security.
  4. Click Windows Update.
  5. Make sure that the check box for Check online for updates from Windows Update is selected.
  6. Click Check for Updates.
  7. Make sure to download and install all critical updates.
  8. Once the updates are complete, restart your computer and try downloading or playing your game again.

Adjust the DPI

If the issue continues, try checking the dots per inch (DPI) setting. The DPI helps display the image on the screen. Sometimes, issues can appear if the DPI is set too high or too low.

To adjust the DPI:

  1. Open the Windows start menu.
  2. Select Settings.
  3. In the Settings menu, select System.
  4. Select Display.
  5. In this menu, you should see an option that says ‘Change the size of text, apps and other items:' Select the slider for this option and set it to 100%.
  6. Click the Apply button.
  7. Restart the computer then try the game again.

If you continue to experience display issues, please see the following article for more helpful troubleshooting steps:
