Microsoft baut seine Plattform für Employee Experience, Microsoft Viva, weiter aus. Der neueste Clou ist App Viva Engage.Wer sich mit dem Microsoft-Marketing näher befasst, wird da manchmal etwas skeptisch, denn gefühlt wirft der Redmonder Konzern alle paar Monate neue Features und Funktionen auf den Markt.
So stellt sich deshalb auch bei Viva Engage die Frage: Ist das jetzt wirklich innovativ oder gibt’s da vermutlich nur einen neuen Anstrich? Es lohnt sich also, einmal näher hinzuschauen. Was beabsichtigt Microsoft damit? Welche Mehrwerte bringt es den NutzerInnen?
Microsoft Teams als All-in-One-Hub für Kollaboration
Wie immer kann man nicht auf alles selbst eine Antwort haben. Und deshalb fragen wir zunächst bei Michèle Renztelas, Consultant für Microsoft 365 bei adesso nach. Gleich zu Beginn unseres Gesprächsbringt sie Licht in den Dschungel aus Begrifflichkeiten, mit denen sich AnwenderInnen im Microsoft 365-Umfeld immer wieder auseinandersetzen müssen.
Wir erinnern uns: Mit Microsoft Viva integrierte Microsoft seine App für Enterprise Social Networking, Yammer, unter der Bezeichnung „Communities“ als eigene App in Microsoft Teams. Technisch gesehen war das also nichts anderes als Yammer, nur hieß das jetzt „Communities“ und konnte direkt in Teams aufgerufen werden. Nun kommt Viva Engage und ersetzt wiederum „Communities“. So hält Microsoft die „Bewegung“in Teams hoch und an seiner Idee fest, das Tool als All-in-One-Hubfür Kollaboration weiter auszubauen.

„Teams ermöglicht verschiedene Absprungpunkte, um sich und seine Arbeit besser organisieren zu können. Mit den Apps von Microsoft Viva sollen die neuen Herausforderungen von Kollaboration gemeistert werden: Austausch, Informationen finden, Daten sammeln und nutzen“, erklärt Michèle Renztelas.
Interessant ist das neue Feature auch für die MitarbeiterInnen, die sich auf den gängigen sozialen Netzwerken eben nicht mit Arbeitskollegen vernetzen möchten oder Plattformen wie Facebook oder Instagram privat gar nicht erst nutzen. Die Möglichkeit, in Viva Engage zu posten und sich ein Stückweit auch privat kennenzulernen, kann die Kommunikation insgesamt fördern, etwa an international verteilten Standorten.
Viva Engage ist also wieder einmal eine technologische Antwort darauf, dass es nicht allen Menschen leichtfällt, mit Arbeitsformen wie Hybrid Work oder Remote Work zurechtzukommen. Vielen fehlt die persönliche Verbundenheit mit KollegInnen.

Warum sollten Unternehmen zukünftig Viva Engage nutzen und welche Mehrwerte bringt das gegenüber Yammer?

Ganz pragmatisch gesehen: Weil Viva Engage an der Oberfläche sichtbar wird. Das heißt im Sinne des Evergreen-Betriebs sollen Unternehmen, die Yammer bereits einsetzen, die Nutzer über Viva Engage und den neuen Zugang zu den Yammer-Services informieren.
Besonders wichtig ist die Kommunikation mit den AnwenderInnen in Bezug auf Viva Engage! Schon allein deshalb, um die Verwirrung gering zu halten, wenn Microsoft die Yammer-App in Teams automatisch umbenennt und neue Icons auftauchen.
Viva Engage erfordert keine separate Lizenz. Also freuen wir uns über die neuen Features und nutzen sie, wenn es sinnvoll erscheint. Trotzdem sollten NutzerInnen von Yammer ein paar Handgriffe erledigen, damit der Umstieg reibungslos klappt. Die neuen Features werden auch in Yammer kommen, und Yammer wird als Service auch bleiben.

Viva Engage ersetzt die Communities-App in Microsoft Teams, die auf Yammer basiert. Hintergrund ist, dass Microsoft die Employee-Experience-Plattform Microsoft Viva signifikant ausbaut und Yammer dort eine zentrale Rolle als „Social Layer“innerhalb von Microsoft 365 spielt. In Yammer wird weiterhin stark investiert und die bekannte Stand-Alone-Lösung wird nicht mehr die einzige Art und Weise sein, Yammer zu nutzen.

Mit Viva Engage überträgt Microsoftdie liebgewonnenen Möglichkeiten aus dem Privaten wieder einen Schritt konsequenter in die Berufswelt. Wie man es von Social Media kennt, lassen sich mit Viva Engage jetzt auch Beiträge und Stories posten. Damit lässt sich der organisationsweite Austausch verbessern. Wir sprechen hier vom „Outer Circle“. Teams ist ja eher die Plattform für direkte Zusammenarbeit mit KollegInnen in Abteilungen oder Projekten, also dem „Inner Circle“.
Mit Formaten, die wir aus den sozialen Netzwerken bereits kennen, hilft Viva Engage über das eigene enge Netzwerk hinaus noch leichter ExpertInnen zu einem bestimmten Thema innerhalb der Organisation zu finden und sich mit ihnen auszutauschen. Auch das Bilden von Communities zu bestimmten Themengebieten wird mit den bekannten Formaten immer angenehmer.
Auch wenn Viva Engage eigentlich nur eine Umbenennung der bisherigen App „Communities“in Teams ist und alle neuen Funktionen auch in Yammer zur Verfügung stehen werden, baut Teams seine Möglichkeiten als zentrale Kommunikationsplattform mit Viva Engage weiter konsequent aus. Gleichzeitig profitieren Arbeitnehmer davon, dass die auf Social Media gewohnten Formate nun auch firmenintern – für private ebenso wie für berufliche Themen –verfügbar sind.

Ich möchte Viva Engage nicht Yammer gegenüberstellen, sondern sehe die neue Appvielmehr als einen Teil der Funktionalität der Employee-Experience-Plattform, in der Yammer eben das große soziale Forum ist.Mit VivaEngage werden KollegInnen persönlicher und man kann damit dasWir-Gefühl stärken, wie etwa durch die Stories. Diese sind in der Regel gedacht für ManagerInnen und MittelmanagerInnen, so dass man also nicht nur den CEO im Townhall-Meeting sprechen hört, sondern auch alle anderen ManagerInnen und natürlich auch andere KollegInnen. Mit Viva Engage erhalten sie einen zusätzlichen Sprachkanal, mit dem siezeigen können, was sie täglich so tun. So können sich MitarbeiterInnen mit anderen MitarbeiterInnen, aber auch mit ManagerInnen besser identifizieren und nicht nur mit dem einem CEO oder dem eigenen Manager beziehungsweise Managerin.

Yammer hat neben Teams in den vergangenen Jahren zu Unrecht im Schatten gestanden. Durch die Aufnahme von Yammer in die Viva-Familie stärkt Microsoft seine Bedeutung. Viva Engage macht Social Networking und die aus Social Media bekannten Stories auch im Unternehmensalltag verfügbar. Vorteile für Unternehmen sehe ich vor allem in einer nahbaren Kommunikation mit- und untereinander, die in Zeiten von Hybrid Offices und Remote Work relevant sind, um Kulturarbeit zu leisten und ein Wir-Gefühl zu schaffen.
Gleichzeitig freue ich mich zu sehen, dassMicrosoft seine Dienste rund um Viva zu einer Employee-Experience-Plattform weiterentwickelt und die Übergänge, und damit die Benutzbarkeit der Plattform mit jedem Viva-Add-on steigt. Gerade bei Viva Engage bleibt es spannend, ob und wie Microsoft die Brücke zu Viva Connections und/oder News in SharePoint baut. Hier können wir viel erwarten!
Welche Vorteile hat die Story-Funktionalität in Viva Engage? Gibt es auch Ressentiments dagegen?
Julian Bahrs:
Stories und Storyline sind neben dem Facelift und einer schier unendlichen Reihe von Verbesserungen und Integrationen (zum Beispielein User-Profil in Microsoft 365) wirklich umfangreicheFeatures, die neu hinzukommen. In den meisten Yammer-Netzwerken stehen aktuell eher Communities im Vordergrund.
Mit dem Feature „Stories“wird es eine bessere und zeitgemäße Content-Aufbereitung geben. Gleichzeitig erfolgt eine Stärkung der Möglichkeit, sich persönlich darzustellen. Das Konzept „Folgen“ wird dann wieder für Personen (und nicht nur für Communities) interessant.
Vorteile sehe ich hier vor allem für die interne Kommunikation, weil manContent im Enterprise Social Network besser aufbereiten kann. Und natürlich reichlich Ansatzpunkte für Corporate Social Influencer. Aber auch Führungskräfte haben die Chance, einfacher Nahbarkeit zu erzeugen und „Engaging-Kommunikation“zu betreiben.
Ragnar Heil:
Stories beinhalten nicht nur Fotos, sondern auch Videos. Microsoft sieht persönliche Kurzvideos als wachsenden Trend,angeführt von TikTok, Snapchat und Instagram. Dadurch wird Viva Engage persönlicher, nahbarer und für viele Menschen interessanter.
Vor allem in Zeiten von Homeoffice und Hybrid Work vermissen viele KollegInnen die persönliche Nähe, auch wenn die räumliche Trennung durch Remote Work sehr gerne genutzt wird. Hier können Stories konkret helfen, weil Geschichten den Vorteil haben, dass sie Emotionen transportieren und so gut erinnert werden (zum Beispiel bei Erfolgen des Teams oder beim Ausscheiden von MitarbeiterInnen).Wissen lässt sich für viele leichter über Kurzvideos teilen.
Alexander Eggers:
Ein großer Vorteil von Stories im beruflichen Umfeld besteht darin, dass MitarbeiterInnen oder auch gerade Führungskräfte ihre Statements und Nachrichten jetzt auch im Videoformat oder in Fotos verpacken können. Social-Media-Nutzer kennen diese Formate bereits gut aus ihrem Privatleben. Deshalb wird diese Personengruppe die neuen Möglichkeiten auch im beruflichen Umfeld sehr schätzen.
Als Problem könnte die für das Anschauen verbrauchte Arbeitszeit gesehen werden. Ein einminütiges Video bindet bei 10.000 Zuschauern rund 160 Stunden Arbeitszeit oder knapp 21 Arbeitstage. Das zeigt: Man sollte sich genau überlegen, wie man Videos sinnvoll einsetzt. Generell gilt jedoch, dass Videoformate auf dem Vormarsch sind. In allen Altersgruppen werden Informationen zunehmend in Bild- beziehungsweise Videoformat aufgenommen. Deshalb bin ich überzeugt, dass auch im beruflichen Bereich Videoformate zukünftig eine immer größere Rolle spielen werden.
Robert Mulsow:
Aus meiner Sicht ist die Story-Funktionalität nur eine logische Folge aus den Anforderungen an die Arbeitswelt, speziell für die Knowledge-Worker. Warum?
- Arbeit und Privatleben verschmelzen immer mehr. Es geht dabei um den Aufbau einer Work-Life-Harmony, bei der man sich mit seiner Arbeit wohlfühlt und in der man auch mal etwas Privates machen kann. Umgekehrt erledigt manvielleicht auch mal kurz eine geschäftliche Sache im Privatleben.
- Warum sollte ich bei der Arbeit ein anderer Mensch sein als der, der ich privat bin? Also einfach natürlich sein undSpaß bei der Arbeit haben, dann ist das gut für die eigene Leistung. Ich möchte eben keine KollegInnen,die privat und beruflich unterschiedlich sind, sondern ehrliche und sympathische KollegInnen, die einfach so sind, wie sie sind.
- Besonders die junge Generation mit einer hohen Affinität zu sozialen Netzwerkedrängt jetzt in die Arbeitswelt. Im Kampf um Fachkräfte ist es deshalb wichtig, diese liebgewonnenen Funktionalitäten, wie eben auchStories,im Arbeitsalltag zu integrieren. Dadurch lässt sichdie junge Generation besser ansprechen.
Christian Kummer:
Niemand hat danach gefragt, dennoch ist die Story-Funktionalität überfällig. Aufwendig produzierte Videos und Townhalls gehören zum Unternehmensalltag, sind aber wenig adäquat, um nahbar zu sein und kurzfristig kommunizieren oder reagieren zu können. Einfacher User Generated Content, wie Stories, halte ich für ein adäquates Mittel, um miteinander Erlebnisse zu teilen und miteinander zu kommunizieren. Stories können helfen,schnell zu kommunizieren, Emotionen zu vermitteln und Authentizität zu stiftenund damit ein Kulturträger zu sein. Natürlich sind Stories nur ein Mittel, schließlich kommt es auf das Wollen und den Einsatz an.
Mit Ressentiments ist zu rechnen und ich kann mir persönlich viele vorstellen. Ich habe schon Sätze gehört, wie: „Die sollen arbeiten, nicht glotzen!”Den Fokus würde ich jedoch weniger auf Nachteile, sondernauf Anwendungsfälle und Bedarfe für Stories im Unternehmen richten. Ebenso wie pathologische Fälle wird es immer auch solchegeben, in denen Stories einen Unterschied machen können und einen wichtigen Beitrag zurEmployee Experience im Unternehmen leisten können.
