Does the Twitch Safety Council still exist? ›

The Council guides decisions made at Twitch by contributing their experience, expertise, and belief in Twitch's mission of empowering communities to create together. It is composed of online safety experts and Twitch creators who have a deep understanding of Twitch, its content, and its community.

We set and enforce rules for Twitch as a whole, but we also empower creators and mods to go beyond and do what's best for their own communities.

Age Restrictions

People who are 13 or older but under the age of majority where they reside (varies based on legal residence, but is 18 in most U.S. states) may only use Twitch under the supervision of a parent or legal guardian who agrees to be bound by Twitch's Terms of Service. Children under 13 may not use Twitch.

The new do's and don'ts of sexual content on Twitch

In September, a streamer admitted he had borrowed money from top creators under false pretences to feed a gambling addiction. This scandal was then followed by another; a Bloomberg News report detailed allegations that Twitch had not curtailed the exploitation of children on its platform. That was 2022.

For alcohol use, sipping on a drink while streaming wouldn't require a label, but appearing visibly intoxicated to the point you are slurring your speech, or making being drunk the focus of your stream (e.g. doing a “drunk history”) would require a label.

How much money do Twitch streamers make? You can make anywhere from $50 per month with five to 10 average viewers per stream to as much as $30,000 a month if your average viewership per stream reaches 10,000.

Twitch is a subsidiary of Amazon, which bought the platform in August 2014 for $970 million. Twitch's main headquarters are in San Francisco. Twitch's predecessor was a start-up founded by entrepreneur and Web developer Justin Kan in 2007 after he had recently graduated from Yale University.

While Twitch doesn't have a built-in filter for kid-friendly streams, there are many channels deemed appropriate for all ages.

Is Twitch inappropriate for kids? ›

According to the platform, Twitch is unsuitable for children ages twelve and under. The app prohibits children younger than 13 years old from using it in its own Terms of Service. However, a user's age is not verified when signing up, making their recommendation trite.

In order to register for a Twitch account you must be at least 13 years of age. If you are the parent or legal guardian of a child under 13 who has become a Twitch Services member, you can contact Twitch at privacy@twitch.tv to have their account terminated indefinitely and personal information deleted.

Kissing or licking a microphone falls under "Sexual Themes." According to Twitch's FAQ, "Examples of sexual themes include prolonged or repeated kissing of another individual or object, detailed non-educational discussions of sexual topics or experiences, and content or behavior that is very likely to elicit a mature ...

Other dances such as pole dancing and "twerking" are also now allowed without being labelled.

Our policy prohibits the use of terms like “simp,” “incel” or “virgin” specifically when they are being used to negatively refer to another person's sexual practices.

However, the arena was not padded properly, causing people to land on hard ground, resulting in various injuries. Of the two injured, streamer Adriana Chechik reported that she had broken her back after landing, and had to undergo surgery to set the fracture with a rod implant.
