A Shocking Switch-Up in NASCAR's 2026 Season
Get ready for a wild ride as Rick Ware Racing (RWR) drops a bombshell announcement that's got the racing world buzzing! In a move that's sure to spark debates and turn heads, RWR is saying goodbye to Ford and hello to Chevrolet for the upcoming NASCAR Cup Series season. But here's where it gets controversial...
The news caught everyone off guard, including RWR's competition director, Tommy Baldwin Jr. In a recent podcast appearance, Baldwin shared his surprise and the unexpected turn of events. He revealed that he was on a road trip to Long Island when he received the call from team president Robby Benton, breaking the news of the sudden brand switch.
"I had no clue, absolutely none. I was driving to Long Island, minding my own business, when Robby called. It was like a bolt from the blue! I was so shocked, I decided to drive to Pensacola instead. I mean, when life gives you surprises, you might as well embrace them, right?"
And the work began immediately. Baldwin shared his journey, from Long Island to Charlotte, as he started the transition process with Richard Childress Racing (RCR) and ECR Engines. It's a whole new ball game for RWR, and they're diving headfirst into it.
A New Chapter for RWR
RWR's journey with Chevrolet isn't entirely new. In fact, out of their 702 starts at the Cup level, a significant 268 have been under the Chevrolet banner. However, success has been elusive, with only two top 5 finishes and 11 top 10s to show for their efforts. But with this new alliance and a fresh start, RWR is determined to turn things around.
Cody Ware, driving the No. 51 car, finished 36th in the 2025 points standings. Now, with a new direction and a lot of hard work ahead, the team is gearing up for a transformative season.
Baldwin shared his insights, "I'm all caught up now, and it's been a whirlwind since I found out. We've met with everyone, formulated a plan, and we're executing it. All our parts and pieces are at RCR, and the process is about to begin. It's a complete overhaul when you switch alliances. Everything needs to be remeasured and checked against their simulations. We've dropped off our parts, and the team is ready to hit the ground running."
So, what do you think, racing fans? Is this a bold move or a risky one? Will RWR's new alliance with Chevrolet bring them the success they've been striving for? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below! We'd love to hear your predictions and insights for the upcoming season.
