The Huskers traveled to Chicago's Welsh-Ryan Arena and emerged victorious, defeating Northwestern with a final score of 77-58. This win not only keeps their record unblemished but also extends their impressive winning streak. The team's overall record now stands at an incredible 18-0, and they boast a 7-0 record in the Big Ten Conference. Meanwhile, Northwestern's record dropped to 8-10 overall and 0-7 in conference play.
Nebraska's remarkable winning streak has reached an astounding 22 games!
The first half was a back-and-forth affair, with the lead changing hands seven times. But Nebraska eventually gained control. After a layup by Braden Frager, Pryce Sandfort completed a four-point play, swinging the momentum in Nebraska's favor. They went into halftime with a 5-point lead.
Coming out of the break, Northwestern briefly found their rhythm with a three-pointer. However, Nebraska responded with a strong 7-0 run. The lead expanded to double digits with 15:44 remaining in the game and grew to almost 20 points on several occasions.
Nebraska showcased their shooting prowess, hitting 50.9% of their shots overall, including 11 of 26 from beyond the arc. Northwestern managed a 42.6% shooting percentage, with 5 of 14 three-pointers.
After a combined seven three-pointers against Oregon, Frager and Sandfort once again proved their scoring ability, combining for seven against Northwestern. Together, they scored 42 points, with Sandfort contributing 22 points, including five successful three-pointers.
Interestingly, the nation's leading scorer, Nick Martinelli, put up 22 points against the Huskers, shooting 9 of 20 and grabbing a game-high 10 rebounds.
Nebraska now prepares to return home to Pinnacle Bank Arena to face Washington on Wednesday. The game is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. CST and will be broadcast on the Big Ten Network.
