Just Egg Review (1)

Whether you are plant based/vegan or have egg allergies, you may wish that you had an egg option for breakfast. Often times when someone has a dairy allergy, an egg allergy is present as well. Or if a person is plant based, then they consume neither dairy or eggs. It’s for that reason that we wanted to dive into this Just Egg Review.

Just Egg is a brand new product from the company Just. Some may be familiar with their Just Mayo or Just Ranch or Just Cookie Dough products. All of their products are dairy and egg free.

What is Just Egg?

For those of you who are not familiar with the company or product, no, it’s not “just eggs” in the literal sense. Just Egg is a product that is completely plant based, so that means no animals were harmed in any way when making this product.

Just Egg says that the product will scramble like traditional poultry eggs, all while being cholesterol-free, non-GMO, and tasty. It currently comes in one size – a 12oz bottle.Just Egg is a liquid in the bottle, and then turns into a fluffy breakfast protein resembling scrambled eggs out of mung beans.

When someone is gluten free that means they have to pay special attention to the product. Similar to how dairy free and other allergy families live. Thankfully, besides soy, there are no other Top 8 Allergens inside of the product, including no gluten.

So, yes, Just Egg is gluten free.

Where to buy Just Egg?

Finding Just Egg (as you saw in our video if you happened to watch it) is still proving to be difficult, at the time of this Just Egg Review. So unfortunately, you can’t find Just Egg in every single store that you may be visiting.

The places that you can find Just Egg are:

  • Wegmans
  • Lucky
  • HyVee
  • Veggiegrill
  • New Seasons Market
  • Fresh & Thyme
  • BiRite
  • Nugget Markets

So far, for us, Wegmans, is all that carries it locally. Just Egg does plan to expand nationwide to a variety of stores, as well as be able to stock it into some online stores, such as Amazon Fresh. However, for now, your best bet is to look up your current area’s store locator. Make sure that you click on the store in mind and make sure that it lists the Just Egg as one of products they carry.

While Whole Foods does have some Just products, it does not appear that you can get Just Egg at Whole Foods or Amazon at this time.

How much does Just Egg cost?

When it comes down to something you’d like to see changes on, it’s nothing more than the price of Just Egg. One 12oz bottle of Just Egg is $7.99 at our local Wegman’s. That is a lot of money for just one 12 ounce jar. The hope is that as Just increases production and more and more stores and businesses pick up the product that the cost will go down and eventually rival the same cost as pasteurize raised eggs. (Around $5).

Does Just Egg need to be refrigerated?

Just Egg is located in the refrigerated section and does need to be kept in there when it is not in use. The product comes with a screw on/off lid and you do not need to use all of it at one time; however, when you are finished, it does need to go back in the refrigerator.

What is the taste and texture of Just Egg like?

The texture of Just Egg is spot on exactly how traditional scrambled eggs would look and feel. It’s soft and almost melts in your mouth.

The taste of Just Egg is unique. It tastes lightly seasoned and a bit sweet. Not exactly the same as eggs, but when you are thinking about plant based meat/protein based substitutions, Just Egg nailed this product.

It definitely, in our opinion, needs some black pepper (freshly cracked being the preferred way) and also, a tip we learned, it tastes much more “egg” like when you add a bit of black salt to the recipe. Because of the mild flavor of the Just Egg itself, there is so much you can do with the eggs to help aid them in taking on the flavor of the dish you are creating.
