Jonny Greenwood, the renowned guitarist of Radiohead, has just unveiled his original score for the latest film by acclaimed director Paul Thomas Anderson, titled "One Battle After Another." You can listen to it right here below.
In this gripping film, Leonardo DiCaprio takes on the role of an ex-revolutionary whose teenage daughter, portrayed by Chase Infiniti, finds herself in the crosshairs of a dangerously unhinged military commander played by Sean Penn. While this summary may seem straightforward, Anderson has masterfully crafted a film that is not only action-packed but also strikingly relevant and infused with humor that resonates with contemporary audiences. Greenwood’s score, primarily driven by piano, often maintains a subtle presence, yet it skillfully employs strings and percussion to heighten the film's unsettling tension at key moments.
Since 2007, Greenwood has been the primary composer for Anderson’s films, starting with the critically acclaimed "There Will Be Blood." His musical contributions have also graced other Anderson projects such as "The Master," "Licorice Pizza," "Phantom Thread," and "Inherent Vice." This fruitful collaboration has already earned Greenwood at least one Oscar nomination, and with the potential for more accolades if Anderson's latest film makes a strong showing during awards season.
Interestingly, despite Greenwood's previous statements indicating that Radiohead had no plans for a tour in 2025, he will be reuniting with the band this November for a series of performances across Europe and the UK. You can find tickets for these shows here.
Currently, "One Battle After Another" is playing in theaters and is being hailed as one of Anderson's finest works to date. For a deeper dive into the film, check out our comprehensive review.
