Joel Dahmen's Rise: From Netflix Fame to PGA TOUR Success at Torrey Pines (2026)

In the world of golf, timing can make all the difference. Joel Dahmen may find himself trailing six shots behind Justin Rose, the current leader and a celebrated player ranked No. 10 globally, but his impressive position in second place at the Farmers Insurance Open feels like a personal victory in its own right.

However, Dahmen remains humble about this achievement. When speaking to CBS commentator Jim Nantz, he downplayed his success, stating simply, "It’s just golf."

After finishing his round with an impressive score of 4-under 68 on Saturday, he elaborated to reporters, emphasizing the simplicity of the game: "When you’re out there on the course, it’s just about focusing on your play. You can't do more than your best, whether it's hitting a 7-iron or following your routine. You have to keep in mind that it is just golf. While this sport is my career and how I support my family, it's essential to simplify things and remind yourself that it’s just a game. After the round is over, that's when you can reflect on all the incredible moments that occurred."

Don't let Dahmen's calm exterior fool you; he recognizes that this moment of strong performance comes at a pivotal time for him. As a seasoned veteran who has been on the PGA TOUR for nine years, Dahmen only has one title to his name—the 2021 Corales Puntacana Championship. Despite his popularity, especially after his appearance in Netflix’s series "Full Swing," winning tournaments is what ultimately counts. Last season, he faced challenges finishing just 93rd in the FedExCup standings, making only 12 cuts in 28 events, which left him on the outside looking in regarding qualifying for the top 70 positions.

Reflecting on his season, Dahmen admitted to Golf Digest that uncertainty loomed as he considered his future schedule. "For ten years, I've had the privilege of mostly choosing my schedule, which has been fantastic. But during mid-December, when I found myself not playing much and spending time with family, I often wondered if I might only get to participate in 12 to 15 events this year."

Initially, Dahmen was unsure about his participation in the Farmers Insurance Open, being listed as the fifth alternate. However, fortune smiled upon him when two additional spots were made available due to Brooks Koepka's return to the tour, allowing Dahmen to compete.

Securing a strong finish in this tournament could significantly alleviate his uncertainties. As he heads into the final round, his projected sixth-place standing in the FedExCup provides him with an opportunity to join the Aon Swing 5. This could potentially lead to invitations for Signature Events. Moreover, he has received a sponsor exemption for next week’s WM Phoenix Open, which is crucial as it marks the cutoff for spots in prestigious competitions like the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am and The Genesis Invitational.

Currently sitting at an impressive 15-under, a score that would have either matched or surpassed the winning totals of the last six Farmers Insurance Opens, Dahmen understands the importance of maintaining his focus on his game while enjoying this unique experience of competing in the final pairing for two consecutive days.

"I don’t get the chance to play in the final group as often as some of my fellow players, so I try to take a moment to appreciate it,” he shared. “It’s really special that fans come out to watch and support me—that feeling never gets old."

As for his strategy against Justin Rose, Dahmen joked, "My only wish is that maybe he forgets to set his alarm or somehow finds himself in the rough on the back nine. Given how well he’s playing, I’d be content with finishing second."

This light-hearted approach reflects not just his competitive spirit, but also a deep appreciation for the game, making it clear that Dahmen embodies both professionalism and passion.
