Indian musicians are making waves on the global music scene, with Anoushka Shankar, Shakti, Siddhant Bhatia, and Charu Suri earning Grammy nominations across major categories. This recognition highlights India's profound influence on world music, showcasing its classical, folk, and experimental forms. Anoushka Shankar, a sitarist and composer, leads the pack with multiple nominations for her latest work, Chapter III: We Return to Light, a collaboration with sarod maestro Alam Khan and percussionist Sarathy Korwar. The project blends deeply-rooted Indian classical textures with modern soundscapes, a signature style that has defined her two-decade career. The Best Global Music Album category features three Indian collaborations: Shankar's record, composer Siddhant Bhatia's Sounds of Kumbha, and Shakti's Mind Explosion (50th Anniversary Tour Live). Both Shankar and Shakti also received nominations for Best Global Music Performance for their respective tracks, Daybreak and Shrini’s Dream (Live). Charu Suri, an Indo-American pianist and composer, earned a nomination for Best Contemporary Instrumental Album for her album Shayan, which showcases her signature blend of jazz and Indian influences. The 2026 Grammys will be held on February 1 at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, and the Indian artists' nominations are a testament to the country's rich musical heritage and its ability to push creative boundaries on the world stage.
