I would like to share with you an exercise that I often use in workshops or less formal meetings. With this exercise the participants of the workshop or meeting can introduce themselves more informally and have fun at the same time.
This exercise can also serve as a warm-up exercise for a creative hands-on or design session.
I ask participants to take 3 minutes time to quickly sketch three things:
- something about how they see themselves
- something “professional” about their job / skills / or passion
- something “private” about family / hobby / or pets
If I offer this activity to people who are less practicing sketching in their daily working life, I give them some visual examples like following:
And here are some examples from different people:
As you can see, the activity is not about art or creating a compelling visual.
It is rather about producing something tangible, that help to communicate and visualize your thoughts. It is about helping others to remember you, build empathy and build bridges.
I hope you can also try this exercise and have fun!
