The University of Hawai'i Men's Volleyball Team Dominates in Doubleheader Sweep

HONOLULU – The third-ranked University of Hawai'i men's volleyball team had a stellar performance in a doubleheader sweep against Roberts Wesleyan and Rockhurst at Bankoh Arena at Stan Sheriff Center. The Rainbow Warriors (5-1) demonstrated their prowess, taking both matches and setting the stage for an exciting Friday doubleheader.

Doubleheader Sweep: Hawai'i 3, Rockhurst 0
In the nightcap, Hawai'i secured the sweep with a commanding 25-21, 25-19, 23-25, 25-13 victory over Rockhurst. The Warriors' offensive prowess was on full display, with Kristian Titriyski and Adrien Roure combining for 30 kills. Roure's five aces and seven digs, along with Titriyski's six digs and three blocks, showcased the team's versatility. Louis Sakanoko added nine kills and three blocks, further bolstering the Warriors' dominance.

The Warriors' hitting accuracy was impressive, with a .382 match average compared to Rockhurst's .167. They also served a season-high 10 aces and out-blocked the Hawks, 8.5 to 8.0, highlighting their all-around excellence.

Shay Spadaro, Will Sutphen, and Lucan Tran each contributed eight kills for the Hawks (1-3). Setter Nathan Jacques' 28 assists, along with three aces, five digs, and three blocks, kept the Hawks in the game. However, the Hawks struggled to match the Warriors' hitting accuracy, hitting .444 in the third set while the Warriors committed six attack errors and hit .250, sending the match to a fourth set.

The fourth set belonged to Hawai'i, as the Warriors hit .500 and held the Hawks to -.034.

Match #1: Hawai'i 3, Roberts Wesleyan 0
Earlier in the day, UH secured the opening match of the day-night doubleheader against Roberts Wesleyan, winning in straight sets, 25-21, 25-17, 25-16. The Warriors' depth was on full display as most of the reserves played the entire match.

Kainoa Wade led the way with a career-high 21 kills, hitting .514 in 35 attempts. The Kailua, O'ahu native also contributed five digs, two aces, and one block. Thatcher Fahlbusch made his UH debut, finishing with six kills, one ace, and two digs. Fellow outside hitter Finn Kearney also posted six kills in 11 errorless attempts and five digs.

Magnus Hettervik made his first start at setter, finishing with 22 assists and six digs before giving way to Victor Lowe, who added 14 assists and directed the offense to a .462 clip in the third set. Kai Taylor started at libero and recorded nine digs, while middle blocker Ofeck Hazan posted five digs and three blocks.

Ryan DeJohn led the Redhawks (2-1) with eight kills and six digs. As a team, Roberts Wesleyan hit .185 with four aces and 4.5 team blocks.
