The outlaw trapper is leading a campaign to breach the Hudson's Bay Company's monopoly on fur in Canada. Lord Benton, on the other hand, is bent on restoring the company's stranglehold on fur and is on a mission to stamp out Harp, who turns to an old ally when bounty hunters close in on him. Michael P With such shallow character arcs, you don't really nurture these people. Worse, the pacing outstrips the storytelling so, often, you find yourself asking, "Who is this and why should I care?" And, well, it's wintertime all the time. I know it's Northern Canada, but enough snow, already.. Rated 2.5/5 Stars • Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/29/24 Full Review Joe F Acting was good but unrealistic storyline. The French should have hired Declan as no British soldier can kill. He defeats dozens at a time as they all drop their weapons at the site of him and run. Not one ever fired at him. Even storms a Castle with a handful of drunkards. The scene of them walking in the high mountains of Scotland with no supplies was a joke. Writers are so lazy in this show as they could have with just a little thought, made it somewhat plausible. What a waste of good acting and a decent plot. I'll say it again, writers of this show are so lazy in adding meat to the story Rated 1/5 Stars • Rated 1 out of 5 stars 01/02/24 Full Review Shirley L This was a Friday Night 'date night' series for my husband and me . . . we would eagerly support production of a Season 4. The costumes are remarkable, the settings are beautiful, and the casting exceptional. Each character development explorers the best and worst in humanity. Rated 5/5 Stars • Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/15/23 Full Review Lukas K The action of Frontier is set in North America in the late 18th century. At the center of the story is Jason Momoa's protagonist Declan Harp, who becomes involved in a brutal struggle for power and wealth. Specifically, it is about the skin trade, which at the time turned out to be a lucrative business model for exploiters of European origin. For example, the Hudson's Bay Company, a relentless trading company, is doing everything it can to establish a monopoly in this area. Declan, who himself struggles with his origins, nevertheless unites a group of fighters to take action against the big capitalists. The series also wants to show the perspective of the native people, who suffered greatly from the business dealings of the foreign invaders."Frontier" is a solid historical series. The setting is great, the costumes are good too and the acting is not by everyone, but actually quite good. But if you're not into historical series, you won't really get into this, which was also the case for me. Rated 3/5 Stars • Rated 3 out of 5 stars 04/10/23 Full Review R. Hegner Certainly not woke enough for the critics, which is to say it looks, and feels more historically accurate as opposed to the modern day Los Angeles casting of most shows set in an historical era, and storytelling seems to have a higher priority than ideology. The story is good and keeps me interested. So all in all I recommend this for everyone unWoke. And if you are, you would be better off just watching Democratic party ads.I can't give it a perfect score because of a few weird things such as why a poor street kid like Michael wears perfectly fitting expensive brand new clothes and the prominent role of women, unusual though not unheard of for the time Rated 4/5 Stars • Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/15/23 Full Review Audience Member Awful. Noticed it stared Momoa, although he is great and a few other actors provide adequate performances Frontier is poorly written & directed just as bad. Frontier: Season 1 | Rotten Tomatoes (1) Tristram Fane Saunders Daily Telegraph (UK) It crams too much fur-trading history into six overstuffed episodes, introducing two dozen hastily sketched minor characters, many of whom have nothing to do but stand around and discuss the underused Momoa. Jan 23, 2019 Full Review Frontier: Season 1 | Rotten Tomatoes (2) Noel Murray Rolling Stone For sharply defined characters and more straightforward genre kicks, go with Frontier. Jan 23, 2019 Full Review Frontier: Season 1 | Rotten Tomatoes (3) Emily St. James Vox Characters don't seem to have inner lives so much as they have easily defined goals that they keep talking about, as if they're trying to state the objectives of a video game. Rated: 2/5 Jan 23, 2019 Full Review Frontier: Season 1 | Rotten Tomatoes (4) Cheryl Wassenaar Culturess Excessive exposition is a problem all around the world, really. Jan 23, 2019 Full Review Frontier: Season 1 | Rotten Tomatoes (5) Brad Oswald Winnipeg Free Press It does the best it could within the constraints placed upon it, but the end result is a well-intended and pretty good scripted drama that can't quite navigate its way to greatness. Jan 23, 2019 Full Review Frontier: Season 1 | Rotten Tomatoes (6) Dan Jackson Thrillist There's enough intrigue, bloodshed, and shots of gorgeous snow-capped mountains to keep fans of rowdy costume dramas coming back for more.
