Diablo 4: A Beginner's Guide (1)

Getting Started in Diablo 4

Welcome to AccountKings epic blog series! This week's installment will discuss the new Diablo release, talking classes, leveling, quests, and more. The fourth entry in the Diablo series is set to be filled with new character customizations and an exciting storyline, and the quests, adventures, and tasks are the best the franchise has brought us yet. Those who have been fortunate enough to play the game in its testing phase have had nothing but excellent things to say, amping up the excitement for all those waiting on the sidelines. So, without further delay, let's get into the juicy details of this Diablo 4 beginner’s guide!

Diablo 4 Release Date

With more than a decade passing since the franchise's last installment, it's no wonder we're all itching to get the gameplay started, so when will Diablo 4 be available to play? Luckily for all those waiting, they'll be delighted to know the game hit the scene on June 6th!

Diablo 4 Classes

The game offers five classes for players to choose from.

Druid - This class controls the elements of Storm and Earth as well as Shapeshifting.

Barbarian - This class focuses on Melee and allows your Diablo 4 character to wield many weapons with excellent precision. Additionally, you are able to enrage yourself in battle to receive bonuses.

Necromancer - When using this class, you can resurrect the dead for personal gain and disrupt the balance of life and death to wield blood and bone.

Rogue - Training this class will see you focusing on Melee as well as Ranged. This allows you to switch between the two combat methods for some deadly attacks.

Sorcerer - When using this class, you have the ability to cast elemental spells that can be devastating to opponents on the field of battle.

Depending on your preferred play style, you'll want to choose a fitting class. If you prefer to keep your distance and keep the fight going from afar, Sorcery or the Rogue class would be a good selection. If, however, you are someone who'd rather take the fight to the foe and aren't afraid to get down and dirty, then try your hand at being a Barbarian.

There are differences between each class, whether slight or apparent. So take your time with your selection, try out each class, and get a feel for the battlefield before you dedicate yourself to forging a certain path. Fortunately, Diablo 4 provides a player with ten character slots so that you can turn your hand to each class for a few quests. Regardless of your class choice, Diablo 4 gameplay is action-packed and sure to get you hooked!

Leveling in Diablo IV

One of the game's main elements is leveling up skills, which is done by attacking and killing monsters. In turn, this will provide you with XP, which will gradually bring your leveling bar to full, at which point you will level up and receive a skill point. You can then apply this to the skill you wish to unlock by clicking on the skill you wish to train. And just like that, you have a new ability to use!

Difficulty Experience - Make Some Adjustments

Those who are fans of the franchise will already know that Diablo doesn't use the common leveling formatting that many other games use. Instead, the game uses World Tiers. So, for beginners, we recommend starting your Diablo 4 journey on World Tier 1; doing so gives you the best chance of wrapping your head around the game’s mechanics and puts you on the best foot.

However, it is worth noting that if you feel up to the challenge, you can move up the World Tiers, and doing so means you will receive better XP gains, and more gold will be awarded for the completion of tasks.

Aim for Region Level 2

The game offers players five regions within the Diablo 4 map to explore, and each offers dungeons, strongholds, and an abundance of side activities to keep the gameplay exciting. Within the map menu, you should see 'Region Rewards'; this is where you will see the rewards received for completing the region’s content. Depending on the tier you are currently at will mean the rewards vary. We recommend aiming for tier 2 in each region before moving along; doing so means you will be awarded another potion charge (increasing the amount you hold). With that said, let's move on to our next topic in this Diablo 4 beginner’s guide, potions!

Potions

Potions are a key feature of the Diablo series, as are they in many games of this caliber. So it goes without saying that you’ll need to know a bit about them. Now, let's touch on that aspect of the game as we work through this Diablo guide.

Healing

The next thing we'll touch on in this Diablo IV guide is how to heal. When you begin your Diablo journey, you are equipped with four potions to replenish health, but of course, they will only last so long. You can acquire more by speaking to the Healer in town, or you can activate a Blood Well; you will encounter these across the map.

Additionally, when in battle, you will find some enemies from large red orbs, which can be used to replenish your health. You'll need to keep an eye on your health throughout your endeavors. Your health is measured as such:

80% and above is considered to be healthy, and dropping below 35% is considered injured. You will be made aware of the drop in health when your screen is edged by a red hue.

Upgrading Potions

Your potion capacity can be upgraded as you progress through the game's content. However, there are some steps to take before doing so. You will first need to access the Healing Potion Upgrade quest. Fortunately, this quest takes place in the early stages of the game once you have reached Kyivashad. Once you've acquired this, speak with Veroka.

Alternate methods for upgrading your potions are to speak with the Alchemist in any of Diablo 4's major towns. Do keep in mind that this process will require herbs, and upgrades require specific level requirements.

When you have hit level 10, you can spread with the Alchemist, selecting the option 'I want to increase the potency of my healing potion.' We recommend checking back with the Alchemist after every ten levels to continue with upgrades. If you're unsure when to do so, you can check the icon next to your portions menu; this will show your available upgrades, if any. We have compiled a list of the Leveling requirements for the healing potions.

Tiny Healing Potion - (Level 10)

Minor Healing Potion - (Level 20)

Light Healing Potion - (Level 30)

Moderate Healing Potion - (Level 45)

Strong Healing Potion- (Level 60)

Greater Healing Potion - (Level 70)

Major Healing Potion - (Level 80)

Renown - What is It?

Next in this Diablo 4 beginner’s guide, we’ll discuss Renown. Renown is the new system introduced to the game, and it will increase each time you carry out a task within the world of Sanctuary. Each tier you work through will unlock bonuses for your character, with some even providing cross-character bonuses.

Every region within Sanctuary has a renowned board, allowing you to keep track of progress. Each region renown can be built upon by completing almost any of the tasks or quests provided. Each objective that you complete will provide you with value to go towards unlocking a tier.

If you wish to check out the Renown board, click ‘TAB’ and ‘W’. You will be rewarded with Renown for the following:

Discovering areas will provide you with 5 points.

Uncovering Lilith Statues provides you 10 points.

By unlocking WayPoints you will be rewarded 20 points.

Completing side quests offers 20 points also.

Side dungeon completions will give 30 points.

Strongholds are the most beneficial reward, offering 100 points.

Strongholds

Next in our Diablo 4 beginner’s guide we will discuss Strongholds. Strongholds are areas marked on your map by a red skull. These areas are typically populated by demons or other hellish minions for you to take down. Completing these takedowns restores the stronghold and offers those much-needed 100 points towards Renown.

Not only will taking on the Strongholds provide Renown points, but you will also make the area a player-friendly town in which you can unlock stores, WayPoints, and at times even dungeons!

Item Tiers

Diablo IV offers players five different tiers of items, Common, Magic, Rare, Legendaries, and Unique. The tier names are pretty self-explanatory, and in the early stages, you will most likely find only Common or Magic items. As you progress, you should aim to gradually upgrade your items to the next tier. Don't worry about this too early on, however, as the stats of items won't matter much when you will no doubt replace them fairly quickly.

A general rule of thumb is to check out an item's 'Item Power'; if it's higher, you're probably best off equipping the item. With that said, you don't want to entirely dismiss and drop old items, as later, you can salvage them at the Blacksmith.

WayPoints - Manual Unlock

Next up in our Diablo 4 beginner’s guide are Waypoints. In Diablo 4, players are able to fast-track to any waypoint that they have previously visited. However, this doesn't mean that the process is entirely smooth sailing. When you want to use WayPoints in this franchise, you'll have to manually interact with the spot. Failing to do so can see you in some messy situations; being attacked by a boss that outweighs your power stops being fun pretty quickly.

Each town has its own 'Town Portal,' so try to unlock each of them as you come to them for easier travel throughout the game.

[h[Diablo 4 Map: Exploration[/h]

The map in this installment of the Diablo series is entirely open-world, with players encouraged to explore freely. For this reason, we heavily recommend taking some time between quests and adventures to explore your surroundings.

Taking the time to explore the map means you can uncover some of the game's essential aspects, such as the Altars of Lilith. These altars provide you with Region Renown and a permanent boost to your Diablo 4 character.

Diablo 4 Beginner's Guide - Tips and Tricks

Now that we've covered some of the more important aspects of this Diablo guide, let's take a look at some of the non-essential suggestions that are sure to take your gameplay from mediocre to exceptional.

Don't Ignore Side Quests

As we have stated, exploration in this game is always a good thing, so try and take the time to focus on some side quests. You can identify side quests as a blue exclamation mark on the map. Taking up side quests is always beneficial to the journey, but another great thing about them is the majority do not force you into action immediately. Instead, you can often collect the task and then go about your adventure, most of the time accidentally completing the side quests on the way or at least ending up in the right area to do so.

Clearing Dungeons

As you make your way through the world of Diablo 4, you'll encounter quite a few dungeons. You can find them on the map, marked as small gates when completed or a gold stack icon when incomplete. Each dungeon offers unique rewards, some of which are only usable by certain classes. Don't let this deter you, however, as there is nearly always an excellent set of side rewards to obtain. You can often receive XP and at least one treasure chest. These chests tend to be an excellent source of valuable loot in the early stages.

Hord those Gems!

The last thing we will touch on in this Diablo 4 beginner’s guide is gems. Anyone familiar with the Diablo series will know that inventory management has always been at the forefront of some of the most important things you'll need to maintain. Diablo 4 is no exception, and inventory slots can only hold so much, especially when you're in need of large quantities of items. Gems especially can be problematic, as they come in many shapes and sizes. So, you'll want to ensure you have a safe space to drop them off until they are needed.
