Reactivated AFTER FOREVER is gearing up for a highly anticipated Latin American tour this fall, marking a special celebration of the band's rich history. The tour will commemorate the 26th anniversary of their debut album, 'Prison Of Desire', and the 25th anniversary of its follow-up, 'Decipher'. This announcement comes on the heels of their successful reunion concerts in October 2025, where they performed at the iconic 013 Poppodium in Tilburg, Netherlands. These shows reignited the band's passion and highlighted the enduring love for their music.
The tour will feature a stellar lineup, including the original members: Angel Wolf-Black (SHEWOLF) on vocals, Sander Gommans on guitar and vocals, Bas Maas on guitar, Luuk Van Gerven on bass, and Jeffrey Revet (STREAM OF PASSION) on keyboards. The drum throne will be occupied by Ariën Van Weesenbeek (EPICA), adding to the band's dynamic and energetic performance.
Sander Gommans, reflecting on the band's journey, expressed his excitement: "2025 was a pivotal moment for us. It was 25 years since AFTER FOREVER left an indelible mark on the symphonic metal genre with our debut album, 'Prison Of Desire'. Mark Jansen, a pivotal figure in the band's history, will not be joining the tour due to personal reasons. He shared his thoughts: "I won't be able to join these shows, as I've decided to reduce my touring commitments and spend more time at home in 2026. It's a tough decision, but I believe it's the right one, especially considering the early years of my child's life. I encourage everyone to come and support AFTER FOREVER; it will be an unforgettable experience with magical music and a passionate band."
The band's reunion in 2025 sparked curiosity and led to discussions about the future of AFTER FOREVER. Mark Jansen shed light on the reunion's genesis: "Ego played a significant role in my initial departure from the band. However, we later realized that everyone's egos were too large, leading to clashes. It's heartening to see that we've all grown and evolved. The band's original singer, Floor Jansen, who has been with NIGHTWISH for over a decade, chose not to participate in the reunion concerts. Mark explained this decision: "Floor was approached, but she respectfully declined, stating it was a closed chapter. We respected her choice and considered not proceeding. However, we realized that waiting forever could be a missed opportunity. It's a bittersweet moment, as we celebrate 'after forever' and the chance to continue our journey."
Despite the changes, the band's camaraderie remains strong. Mark and Sander's relationship has evolved, marked by personal growth and a shared sense of humor. Floor Jansen, in a 2018 interview, reminisced about AFTER FOREVER's golden era: "It was a special time, filled with incredible music that came to an abrupt end. I'm still saddened by its premature conclusion, but I'm proud of what we achieved during our youth."
When asked about the band's potential for further success, Floor acknowledged: "I believe there was more to achieve. I wasn't satisfied with the abrupt stop. I thought we could have done more."
